Solar System Facts

In our solar system, there are about 1000 known celestial bodies with a diameter of more than 100 kilometres.

Saturn has the lowest density of all the planets. It has a lower density than water.

Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. It is even smaller than Jupiter’s moon Ganymede and Saturn’s moon Titan.

Venus is the second planet from the sun but still, it is the hottest planet. This is because of its thick atmosphere that traps more heat.

The tallest volcano in our solar system is on Mars. Olympus Mons is a staggering 21 km tall.

Jupiter is our solar system's largest and most massive planet. Even if all of the other planets were combined, they could not equal half of Jupiter's mass.

Mercury has the shortest year which is equal to 88 Earth days. Neptune has the longest year which is equivalent to 165 Earth years.

Vesta is the solar system's largest asteroid. When seen from Earth, it is also the brightest asteroid.

As Earth’s surface is dominated by liquid water, Titan’s surface is dominated by liquid methane and ethane.
